Who is the Pack Aimed
For?
This pack is aimed at Tier 1 Professionals who work
in statutory or voluntary health, social care, education
and the criminal justice setting who provide a service
to children and young people.
 This would include those working in schools and pupil
referral units, social
workers, education welfare workers, care home workers,
youth workers,
Connexions personal advisers, youth offending team
staff, foster carers,
residential care workers, voluntary agency staff and
staff at one stop shops.
It is recommended that before staff use the screening
and BIT they will:
• have received Kirklees DAT accredited Tier 1 Drug and
Alcohol Awareness training/reasonable knowledge of range
of substances
• have knowledge of local sources of support and advice
• be able to assess levels of risk and motivation to
change
• Deliver “low threshold” harm reduction advice and
information
• Appreciate the different contexts within which young
people use/misuse substances.
